The Pakistan Cricket Board announced today that Saud Shakeel will take over as the new vice-captain for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The announcement came as part of a larger squad reveal, with the series scheduled to commence on August 21 in Rawalpindi.

Shakeel, a promising batter, will replace Shaheen Afridi, who will have his workload managed in the coming months due to a busy international schedule. Pakistan is set to play nine Tests, 14 T20Is, and at least 17 ODIs between now and April 2025.

Among the biggest surprises in the squad selection, Imam-ul-Haq has been dropped, while Hasan Ali and Mohammad Wasim Jnr miss out due to injury. Other notable absentees include Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz, Noman Ali, and Sajid Khan.

However, the squad sees the return of pace duo Naseem Shah and Mohammad Ali, along with the potential Test debuts for batters Mohammad Huraira and Kamran Ghulam. In total, 13 of the 17 players selected were involved in Pakistan's most recent Test series in Australia.

Pakistan currently ranks 5th in the ICC World Test Championship standings and will be looking to secure positive results against Bangladesh to remain in touch with the competition's pacesetters.
