England secured a remarkable innings victory over Pakistan in the first Test at Multan, becoming the first team in history to win by an innings after conceding 500 runs in their opponent's first innings.

The match ended in the morning session of day five, with Pakistan bowled out for 220 in their second innings, handing England victory by an innings and 47 runs. The win was highlighted by a record-breaking batting performance from England, who declared at 823 for 7.

The foundations for England’s victory were laid by Harry Brook’s monumental 317, the highest individual score in the match, supported by Joe Root’s masterful 262. Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley also contributed with 84 and 78, respectively, as England posted the fourth-highest total in Test cricket history.

Pakistan, despite scoring a daunting 556 in their first innings, struggled in the second. Resuming the final day on 152 for 6, Salman Agha and Aamer Jamal showed resilience by putting together a 109-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Salman top-scored with 63, while Jamal made a gritty 55* after surviving a hostile short-ball barrage from Brydon Carse.

However, their efforts were not enough to prevent an unwanted record. Pakistan collapsed after Jack Leach's breakthrough, which saw Salman trapped lbw, and the final two wickets fell in quick succession. Leach ended with figures of 4 for 30, picking up the last three wickets to seal England’s win.

The result extended Pakistan's losing streak under captain Shan Masood to six consecutive defeats, and their home winless run, which dates back to February 2021. The absence of Abrar Ahmed, who was hospitalized, further hampered Pakistan's ability to mount a challenge on the final day.

This victory marks only the second time England has won a Test by an innings in Asia, underlining their dominance under the aggressive "Bazball" approach. With this win, England not only asserted their supremacy in the series but also showcased their depth and adaptability in foreign conditions.
