South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies due to a low-grade side strain.

Coetzee, 23, sustained the injury while playing for the Texas Super Kings in the Major League Cricket tournament earlier this month. Despite returning home for further assessments, the Proteas medical team deemed him unfit for the tour.

Uncapped fast bowler Migael Pretorius has been named as Coetzee's replacement. The 29-year-old was previously called up to the Test side in 2020 but did not feature. Pretorius has been in excellent form, taking 23 wickets in eight matches in the ongoing County Championship Division in England.

The first Test will take place in Port of Spain, Trinidad, from August 7, followed by the second Test in Guyana from August 15.

South Africa squad: Temba Bavuma (c), David Bedingham, Matthew Breetzke, Nandre Burger, Tony de Zorzi, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Dane Paterson, Dane Piedt, Migael Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verreynne.
