India secured a resounding series victory over Sri Lanka, achieving a landmark in Gautam Gambhir's inaugural series as head coach.
Suryakumar Yadav began his stint as full-time captain with an easy win in a rain-shortened game, where India chased 78 runs in 8 overs, finishing with 9 balls to spare.
Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bowl. Sri Lanka had a strong start, reaching 80 for 2, but Indian bowlers roared back, restricting the hosts to 161 for 9. Kusal Perera top-scored with 53 off 34 balls. Ravi Bishnoi shone with 3 for 26, while Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya took two wickets each.
Rain interrupted India’s innings after 3 balls. When play resumed, India chased a revised target of 78 in 8 overs. Despite Sanju Samson falling for a golden duck to Maheesh Theekshana, Suryakumar Yadav’s quick 26 off 12 and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 30 off 15 led the charge. Hardik Pandya sealed the win with an unbeaten 22 off 9 balls. Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, and Wanindu Hasaranga each took a wicket but couldn’t save the series.
India 81 for 3 (Jaiswal 30, Suryakumar 26, Theekshana 1-16) beat Sri Lanka 161 for 9 (Kusal Perera 53, Nissanka 32, Bishnoi 3-26) by seven wickets via DLS method.
