In a nail-biting finish, the first One-Day International (ODI) between Sri Lanka and India ended in a tie at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Both teams displayed resilience and fought hard, but it was the 21-year-old Sri Lankan all-rounder, Dunith Wellalage, who stole the show.

Opting to bat, Sri Lanka had a shaky start, losing wickets regularly. However, a fighting total of 230 was posted, thanks to Wellalage's maiden half-century (61 off 68 balls) and his crucial partnerships with Janith Liyanage and Wanindu Hasaranga.

In reply, India started strongly with Rohit Sharma's quick-fire 33-ball fifty. The openers put up 71 runs in the first powerplay, but the Sri Lankan spinners applied the brakes. Wellalage struck twice in two overs to remove both openers, changing the tide of the match.

The pendulum swung again with Shivam Dube's aggressive batting, but Sri Lanka managed to dismiss the last two Indian batsmen off successive deliveries, tying the game. Wellalage, who starred with the bat, was awarded the Player of the Match for his impressive performance. The series continues on Sunday with the second ODI at the same venue. Both teams will be looking to clinch the victory and take a lead in the series.
