Rishabh Pant Returns as India Announce Squad for 1st Test Against Bangladesh

Rishabh Pant Makes Long-Awaited Return as India Announce Squad for 1st Test Against Bangladesh / Pant/X

Rishabh Pant makes his much-anticipated return to the Indian Test side after nearly 20 months, as India named their 16-man squad for the first Test against Bangladesh, starting September 19 in Chennai.

Pant, who last featured in a Test match before his accident in December 2022, has fought back through a long rehabilitation and strong performances in the IPL and Duleep Trophy.

Virat Kohli also returns to the squad after missing the England series for personal reasons, while Yash Dayal, an uncapped left-arm pacer from Uttar Pradesh, receives his maiden Test call-up. Bengal pacer Akash Deep, who debuted earlier this year, retains his spot alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj in the pace attack.

India will field a strong spin quartet with R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. KL Rahul, who missed most of the England series due to injury, also returns, with Sarfaraz Khan keeping his place after an impressive debut.

The two-Test series will be followed by three T20Is in October. The second Test will be held in Kanpur from September 27.
