Afghanistan have announced a one-off Test match against New Zealand in India this September, marking the first-ever red-ball encounter between the two teams.

The historic match is scheduled from September 9 to 13 at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground.

Expressing his delight, ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf stated, “We are thrilled to host New Zealand for a Test match, a significant milestone in our cricketing journey.” He also highlighted the efforts made through discussions and meetings with various boards to bring this event to fruition.

This Test match will be Afghanistan’s 10th since gaining Test status in 2017. So far, they have secured victories against Ireland (2019), Bangladesh (2019), and Zimbabwe (2021). New Zealand, known for their strength across formats, will pose a significant challenge.

The match follows Afghanistan's recent triumph over New Zealand in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, adding to the anticipation. After this Test, New Zealand will remain in India to play an ICC World Test Championship series in October.
