COLOMBO: Wanindu Hasaranga announced on Thursday his decision to step down as Sri Lanka’s T20 International captain ahead of the three-match series against India.

This surprise move comes just days before the series, which features T20Is on July 26, 27, and 29 at Pallekele International Stadium, followed by three ODIs in Colombo starting on August 2. Hasaranga, a standout player known for his leg-spin and batting abilities, has led the team with mixed results. He expressed that stepping down will allow him to concentrate more on his individual performance.

The Sri Lankan cricket board is now tasked with appointing a new T20 captain swiftly, ensuring the team is well-prepared for the challenging series against India.
