Afghanistan's top-order batter Ihsanullah Janat has been banned from all forms of cricket for five years due to corruption, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced on Wednesday. The ban, effective immediately, stems from breaches of Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code during the Kabul Premier League earlier this year.
"Janat was found guilty of improper influence or efforts to fix the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match," the ACB stated. Janat has admitted to the charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities.
The ACB is also investigating three other players for similar violations.
Ihsanullah, 26, scored 72 runs in four innings for Shamshad Eagles in the 2024 Kabul Premier League, where his team finished last. Internationally, he has played 20 matches for Afghanistan, scoring 307 runs in 16 ODIs, 110 runs in three Tests, and 20 runs in a single T20I.
Ihsanullah's brother, Nawroz Mangal, is a prominent figure in Afghan cricket, having captained the national team during its early years on the international stage.
