O'Rourke, who made an impressive debut against Australia earlier this year, will be joined by Sears, who picked up five wickets in his second Test against Australia. The squad also includes off-spinner Michael Bracewell, who has recovered from achilles and finger injuries.

Head coach Gary Stead expressed his excitement about the new additions, particularly highlighting Bracewell's all-round skills and ability to counter left-handers. The team is currently in third place on the ICC Test Championship table and is looking to secure crucial points in their upcoming matches.

The Kiwis will also welcome back Saqlain Mushtaq as bowling coach and James Foster as assistant coach. The team will play a one-off Test against Afghanistan in India, followed by two Tests in Sri Lanka, as part of their ICC Test Championship campaign.

Stead also emphasized the importance of workload management for the bowlers, considering the challenging conditions and busy schedule. The team is determined to build on their success in Bangladesh last year and improve their standing in the Test Championship.
