In a recent announcement, the Bangladesh Cricket Board unveiled a 15-player squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan, set to begin in Rawalpindi on August 21.

The squad features the return of pacer Taskin Ahmed, who last played a Test in June 2023. Taskin took a break from red-ball cricket to prioritize his recovery from a shoulder injury and has since expressed his desire to return to longer-version cricket.

Gazi Ashraf Hossain, chairman of the national selection panel, explained the decision to include Taskin in the squad, stating,

"We have selected five pacers, keeping in mind that Taskin Ahmed will only play the second Test. He hasn't bowled in a Test since June last year, and we have decided to include him in the 'A' team for the second four-dayer against Pakistan A to help him regain his rhythm for longer version matches."

The squad also features Shakib al Hasan and Shoriful Islam, both of whom have been away from Test cricket for a significant period. The selection panel prioritized experience and talent in creating a well-balanced squad for the challenging tour.

The Bangladesh team will leave for Pakistan on August 12 for the two ICC World Test Championship matches. The first Test is set to begin on August 21, while the second match starts on August 30. The squad will assemble in Lahore for training at the Gaddafi Stadium from August 14-16 before travelling to Islamabad on August 17 for the first Test.

Taskin's return to the Test squad brings experience and variety to Bangladesh's bowling attack, which will be crucial in their quest to challenge Pakistan in their home conditions. The additional time for preparation in Lahore and the experience of the conditions by some players from the Bangladesh A side should prove beneficial in this highly anticipated series.
