Essex batter, Jordan Cox, is set to make his Test debut for England in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, despite facing several challenges this season. Cox, 23, was named in the squad as a replacement for opener Zak Crawley, who is out with a broken finger.

Cox had to undergo appendix surgery after experiencing stomach cramps during a County Championship game against Surrey. Initially, he was told by the surgeon that he would be out for eight to 12 weeks. However, he managed to recover in four and a half to five weeks, showing resilience and determination.

Cox said :

"These three games, I think I'll learn so much from that, it'll be the best experience of my life, for sure."

Cox was caught by surprise when he received the call from England head coach Brendon McCullum, initially thinking it was a sales call. He expressed his delight, stating that he had always felt closer to the white-ball side.

Cox is Essex's leading scorer in the County Championship, with 763 runs at an average of almost 70, including three centuries. Regardless of whether he gets to play or not, Cox is eagerly looking forward to the opportunity, viewing it as a great learning experience.
