In a strategic move aimed at bolstering England's cricket performance across all formats, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has appointed Brendon McCullum as the head coach for both the Test and white-ball teams.

McCullum, who has been instrumental in revitalizing England's Test cricket, will now oversee the entire men's team. This decision marks a departure from the split coaching model that was briefly implemented in 2022.

The ECB has extended McCullum's contract until the end of 2027, signaling their confidence in his leadership. He will assume full responsibility for the white-ball teams in January 2025, starting with a tour of India followed by the ICC Champions Trophy.

In the interim, assistant coach Marcus Trescothick will take charge of the white-ball side for the upcoming series against Australia and the West Indies.

Key Points:

  • Unified Coaching: McCullum will oversee both Test and white-ball teams.
  • Contract Extension: His contract has been extended until 2027.
  • Interim Coach: Trescothick will lead the white-ball team temporarily.
  • Mott's Departure: Matthew Mott was removed from his role as white-ball coach earlier this year.

"We are delighted to have Brendon committed to English cricket," said Rob Key,
Managing Director of England men's cricket.
"His leadership and expertise will be invaluable as we strive for continued success across all formats."

McCullum expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge, stating,

"I am excited to work with Jos Buttler and the team to build on the strong foundations we have established in Test cricket."

This move represents a significant step towards a more cohesive and successful English cricket team.
