Australia Women continued their remarkable run in T20 World Cups, claiming their 13th consecutive victory with a commanding 60-run win over New Zealand Women at Sharjah.

The comprehensive performance saw Australia’s bowlers and batters working in tandem to maintain their undefeated streak in the tournament and surge to the top of Group A.

Australia's Batting Effort Led by Mooney

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Australian captain Alyssa Healy gave her side a brisk start in the powerplay with a quickfire 26 before being dismissed in the final over of the opening six. The top-order contributions, led by Beth Mooney’s steady 40 off 32 balls, kept Australia on track despite a disciplined fightback from New Zealand’s bowlers.

Amelia Kerr was the standout for New Zealand, delivering a brilliant spell of 4/26, which helped restrict Australia to a moderate total of 148/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

New Zealand’s Struggles with the Bat

In response, New Zealand Women got off to a cautious start, but the pressure from Australia’s disciplined bowling attack quickly mounted. Unable to find momentum, New Zealand lost wickets at regular intervals, with only Amelia Kerr offering resistance, top-scoring with 29.

Australia’s bowling attack, led by Megan Schutt (3/3) and Annabel Sutherland (3/21), dismantled New Zealand’s batting order, bowling them out for a paltry 88 in 18.4 overs.

Victory and Group Leadership for Australia

The 60-run win not only extended Australia’s dominance in T20 World Cups but also solidified their position at the top of the points table in Group A. Healy’s leadership, coupled with contributions from both bat and ball, ensured a clinical all-round performance.

With this victory, Australia Women look unstoppable as they continue their pursuit of yet another T20 World Cup title. New Zealand, on the other hand, will need to regroup quickly as they seek to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
