South Africa Women secured a dominant 80-run victory over Scotland Women in their T20 World Cup clash, propelling themselves to the top of Group B and boosting their net run-rate significantly. Scotland, on the other hand, became the first team to be knocked out of the tournament after being bowled out for just 86 in 17.5 overs, chasing a daunting target of 167.

South Africa’s Batting Performance
After winning the toss and opting to bat first in the scorching Dubai heat, South Africa made the most of their decision, posting the highest total of the tournament so far—166/5 in 20 overs. Openers Laura Wolvaardt (40 off 27) and Tazmin Brits (43 off 35) set a solid foundation with a 72-run partnership.
Despite neither going on to make a big score, contributions from Marizanne Kapp (43 off 24) and a cameo by Sune Luus (18 off 13) ensured South Africa posted a competitive total. Scotland’s bowlers toiled in the heat, with none able to make significant breakthroughs during crucial phases of the match.

Scotland’s Struggle with the Bat
In reply, Scotland’s chase faltered from the beginning. The Bryce sisters, Sarah and Kathryn, were dismissed in quick succession by Chloe Tryon, and from there, wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Scotland never looked in control, and their hopes of chasing the total quickly faded as they slipped further behind.
Nonkululeko Mlaba was the standout bowler for South Africa, continuing her fine form with figures of 3/12 from her four overs. Nadine de Klerk and Chloe Tryon chipped in with two wickets apiece, while Ayabonga Khaka, Sune Luus, and Annerie Dercksen each claimed one.

With this resounding win, South Africa now sit comfortably atop Group B with a strong net run-rate, while Scotland bow out of the competition after failing to secure a victory. The Proteas will now focus on their upcoming matches as they aim to solidify their place in the semi-finals.
