IPL 2025 Player Mega Auction to be Held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; 1574 Players Register for Bidding
The much-awaited IPL 2025 Player Auction is set to take place overseas for the second consecutive year, with Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, chosen as the venue for the event. The auction will be held on November 24 and 25, as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
This year, a total of 1574 players have registered for the auction, with 1165 of them hailing from India and 409 players from overseas. Notably, 30 players come from Associate nations, expanding the global pool of talent. South Africa and Australia lead the overseas registrations with 91 and 76 players, respectively.
The auction’s timing is particularly interesting as it will clash with the opening Test of India’s tour of Australia, part of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Perth Test is scheduled to begin on November 22, making the auction overlap with Day 3 and Day 4 of the match, adding a unique dynamic for franchise owners, coaches, and team management.
In terms of team preparations, after the October 31 retention deadline, a total of 204 available slots remain for the ten franchises to fill during the auction, including 70 slots for overseas players. Each team is allowed a maximum of 25 players in their squad, offering a mix of opportunities and challenges in terms of team composition.
Punjab Kings will enter the auction with the highest available purse, boasting a substantial ₹110.5 crore after retaining just two uncapped players. This positions them as one of the most aggressive teams in the bidding process. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals have the smallest purse of ₹41 crore after opting to retain six players, five of whom are capped. This indicates a more conservative approach as they focus on adding players to complement their already strong squad.
