Bangladesh cricket fans have reason to celebrate as their star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is set to make his T20I comeback after a 10-month absence, just weeks before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 kicks off. Shakib's return comes as a significant boost for Bangladesh, especially considering his wealth of experience and proven abilities in the shortest format of the game.
The 34-year-old last played a T20I match in July 2023 during a home series against Afghanistan. His inclusion in Bangladesh’s squad for the last two T20Is against Zimbabwe marks a crucial step in his return to international cricket. Bangladesh, already leading the ongoing five-match series against Zimbabwe 3-0, will look to consolidate their position with Shakib's presence in the team.
Shakib Al Hasan is a legend of the game, known for his exceptional skills as a spin-bowling all-rounder. His return to the T20I fold is particularly significant as Bangladesh prepares for the T20 World Cup, to be held in the West Indies and the USA. Shakib's experience in the tournament spans back to its inaugural edition in 2007, making him one of the most seasoned campaigners in Bangladesh's cricket history. With 117 T20I matches under his belt, Shakib brings a wealth of experience to the team. He has amassed 2382 runs and taken 140 wickets in T20Is, showcasing his all-round prowess and value to the Bangladesh side. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball adds depth and balance to the team's lineup, making him a crucial asset in their quest for success in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
