Matthew Mott Resigns as England Men’s White-Ball Head Coach and Marcus Trescothick Steps In as Interim Head Coach role

Matthew Mott has stepped down as England Men’s White-Ball Head Coach after two years in the role.

The decision comes following England’s recent ICC T20 World Cup campaign, where they were knocked out in the semi-finals by eventual winners India. Mott, appointed in May 2022, led England to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later that year and secured series wins against Australia, Bangladesh, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Pakistan.

Assistant Coach Marcus Trescothick will take over on an interim basis for the remainder of the home summer. England is set to face Australia in a white-ball series in September, which includes three Vitality IT20s and five Metro Bank ODIs.

Rob Key, ECB’s Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket, praised Mott’s contributions and expressed the need for new direction as the team prepares for future challenges, including the Champions Trophy early next year.

Mott expressed pride in his tenure and gratitude towards players, management, and fans. Trescothick looks forward to building on Mott's work and preparing the team for upcoming competitions.
