Former South African speedster Morne Morkel has officially been appointed as the bowling coach of the Indian men's cricket team.

The announcement was made by BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday. Morkel's tenure will commence on September 1, with his first assignment being the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.

The 39-year-old's appointment comes as no surprise, given his strong working relationship with India's head coach Gautam Gambhir. The duo previously collaborated at the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League, where they forged a successful partnership.

Morkel replaces Paras Mhambrey in the role and will be joining a coaching staff that also includes assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate. T Dilip will continue as the fielding coach.

Interestingly, Morkel was previously associated with the Pakistan cricket team as their bowling coach during the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, he resigned from the position before the end of his contract.
