At the close of Day 2 of the second Test, South Africa have tightened their grip on the match, reaching 223/5 in their second innings, extending their lead to 239 runs.

The day began with South Africa swiftly picking up two early wickets, but Jason Holder and Shamar Joseph frustrated the visitors with a resilient 40-run stand, narrowing West Indies' deficit. Holder remained unbeaten with 54, the highest individual score of the match, as West Indies were bowled out for 144.

In response, South Africa's openers put on 79 runs, with Tony de Zorzi falling to Jayden Seales for the second time in the match. The West Indies had a brief resurgence in the final session, claiming three quick wickets to claw back into the contest. However, an unbroken 84-run partnership between Kyle Verreynne (50*) and Wiaan Mulder (34*) swung the momentum back in South Africa’s favor. Earlier Markram got a fifty, de Zorzi missed a fifty and Stubbs got out after being set.

The hosts were lackluster in the field, dropping crucial catches and wasting two reviews. With a lead of 239 runs, South Africa holds the upper hand as they head into a pivotal Day 3.
