Star of India's 2011 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup victory, Gautam Gambhir has been named the new head coach of the India men's cricket team, taking over from Rahul Dravid after India's triumphant ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign.

The announcement was made by BCCI secretary Jay Shah on social media, expressing confidence in Gambhir's vision and experience. "Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close. His clear vision for Team India, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role."

Gambhir, who recently led Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title as mentor, had a stellar career as India's opener. Notable achievements include his match-winning knock in the 2011 World Cup final and his role in the 2007 inaugural T20 World Cup win.

BCCI president Roger Binny thanked Dravid for his tenure and hailed Gambhir as the "ideal candidate" to guide India forward. Gambhir expressed his honor and excitement for the new role, emphasizing his dedication to Indian cricket.
