A day of relentless seam bowling saw 17 wickets fall on the opening day of the decisive Test between West Indies and South Africa.

South Africa, batting first after winning the toss, were bundled out for a paltry 160 with Shamar Joseph, playing his first Test at home, led the charge with a brilliant 5/33, while Jayden Seales provided strong support with 3/45. Jayden Seales also chipped in with three wickets as the Proteas were shot out in 54 overs. Dane Piedt's unbeaten 38 was the top score for the visitors.

The West Indies batting order also crumbled under pressure, with only Keacy Carty managing a score in double figures in the top five. Jason Holder is the lone survivor for the hosts, unbeaten on 33 at stumps, with the Windies reeling at 97/7, still trailing by 63 runs. Wiaan Mulder was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa, claiming four wickets.
