Day 2 of India-Bangladesh Kanpur Test Washed Out Due to Persistent Rain

Persistent rains and a damp outfield resulted in no play on the second day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur. The weather's intensity forced officials to call off the day’s play as early as 14:00 local time. This marked the first instance of a full day's play being washed out in India since the 2015 Test in Bengaluru.

Given the pre-match forecast, the lack of play wasn't a surprise. The opening day saw just 35 overs bowled, with Bangladesh battling challenging conditions on an unpredictable surface. Opting to bowl, Indian captain Rohit Sharma hoped to capitalize on the overcast weather and moisture in the pitch, but despite some early movement, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj struggled to make inroads.

It was debutant Akash Deep who provided crucial breakthroughs, picking up two wickets, while Ravichandran Ashwin removed Najmul Hossain Shanto after a solid stand with Mominul Haque. By stumps on Day 1, Bangladesh had reached 107/3, with Mominul unbeaten on 40.

Fans were left anticipating a fascinating Day 2, but the inclement weather halted all prospects for play. With more rain forecasted, the match now hinges on how much play can be squeezed into the remaining days.
